Your ultimate guide to fall tailgating has just arrived! I put together some of my favorite recipes, dishes, ideas and more to throw the best tailgate on the block. Plus, HELLLLOOO it’s finally fall time! I could scream I am so happy!
Planning the perfect tailgate can be stressful. There is a lot to think about, and a lot you don’t think about until you even get there (been there done that)! But that’s why I’m here, to help you out to plan the most cozy, yummy, and all around fun tailgate.
Let’s start with the recipes:
In my humble opinion, the food is the most important part of any tailgate. Everyone wants to eat, especially when drinking. Have some fun finger foods, as well as a main dish that people can build themselves. And of course, you can’t forget about the sweets!
Mexican Hot Chocolate Mocha Cookies - can you say decadent?! These cookies satisfy every craving I have ever had, and I am not mad about it. At first you taste the mocha flavor, and the sea salt, then the cayenne and spices kick in. It’s the perfect tailgate dessert. It’s delicious, not messy, and sure to be a crowd pleaser!
BBQ Chicken Potato Skins - Yep. They sound just as good as they are. I topped them off with a chipotle mayo, but you could use extra BBQ sauce as a dip!
Pulled Pork Sandwiches - I LOVE these for a tailgate, as they are a classic, but an easy classic. I like to just throw my whole crockpot out there and let people make their own sandwich (much easier for me!).
Pumpkin Spice Rice Krispie Treats - Holy. COW. I will never eat a regular rice krispie treat for as long as I live.
Veggie Platter - I think it is VERY important to have some sort of veggie tray or platter at a tailgate. That way people can snack on something healthy. Not to mention, look at all those colors!
As for the drinks, it depends on what YOU like! I like to have a variety of beer, as well as a Spiced Cider Sangria that I make. I serve my Sangria in a Beehive drink dispenser from Sur La Table. Having a few ice chests or buckets filled with a variety of drinks is sure to keep everyone happy and smiling.
Alright alright alright now that we have the important part over with, let’s talk about the decor.
Making a tailgate special is all about thinking outside the box. PLUS, fall time is my JAM, so I always like to bring that fall time feel to my tailgates. (Hence the blankets and table cloths). I think it adds a freshness and cozy comfort to the whole picture. I got mine from Pier One. I also like to throw a few pillows in the back of my car, just in case! I like to make it feel like you’re in the comfort of your own home, rather than a parking lot.
I got some flowers and garland to bump up the fall vibes a little bit, and make for a cute picture!
While at the store, grab some Citronella candles to keep the bugs away from the fun!
Make sure you have lot of disposable plates, forks, napkins and cups, as well as a trash can to throw it all away in when you’re done.
A cooler (or a couple) is crucial! To keep both food and drinks cold, bring a few bags of ice in an extra cooler.
Lastly, even though YOU planned such an awesome tailgate, be sure to let loose and have fun at the event. It’s easy to get caught up in the planning and making sure everyone is happy, but I asure you, with this spread, everyone will have happy, full hearts and tummies!
