Pavlova has always been one of those desserts that I NEVER think to make...then when I do, I wonder why I don't make it more often. It. Is. SO. Good. I couldn't tell ya what makes it so yummy, after all its just egg whites and sugar. But sometimes, simple is best, and that is definitely the case when it comes to this pavlova. The figs along with the maple and caramel sauce gives it the perfect sweetness and texture it needs.
Figs are something that I consider highly under-rated. They really are amazing and versatile fruits. This dessert happens to be sweet, but figs go just as well with a savory dish. Right now, they are in season so I wanted to make a delicious dessert utilizing the fig.
Fun Fact: Figs were one of the FIRST plants cultivated by humans!
Figs naturally hold moisture in baked goods, keeping them moisture, and fresher, for LONGER.
